Philosophy
I believe in taking my cues from the students and building the curriculum based on my assessment of their individual needs and emerging talents. We work together to pave a path toward longevity as a professional performer. For example, by sharing survival strategies, creative thinking, and skills necessary to build the resilience needed to flourish in the profession. I believe that an actor who thinks innovatively will be able to create and cultivate their own career.
It is my goal to encourage the students to think innovatively and with an entrepreneurial eye as well as creatively as an artist. My teaching style is one of compassion, kindness, clarity and directness. I help guide the students toward the best way to prepare and perform a variety of different materials in an audition setting.
I strongly believe that the mental, spiritual, physical, and emotional health of students is of paramount importance and I thrive on guiding students to build their tool kit of how best to take care of themselves on and off the stage.
My background as a musician, director, casting director, New York native, and parent informs my teaching, in that I have a very unique and positive approach to the individual artist and the work they are producing. As such, each class is built with care.
I am an advocate for inclusion, diversity, and creativity in the industry. I bring these passions into the classroom with me and work to adjust for our times with care, thoughtfulness, hard work and intelligence.
The projects I cast are wide ranging. Premiers of new plays and musicals, established works that are classical and contemporary. My work spans New York, regional theater, international theater, concert venues, and independent film projects. I help guide the students toward the best way to prepare and perform a variety of different materials in an audition setting.
I am a member of the Casting Society and Casting Society Cares where I am actively involved in the Equity in Entertainment and Training and Education Committees. Additionally, I am a mentor and instructor for NYU Tisch Drama Women’s Mentorship Program, Syracuse University’s Tepper Semester, a preliminary judge for the Jimmy Awards, an instructor for NYU’s New Studio on Broadway and I work closely with Fordham High School for the Arts. I am a frequent guest lecturer at many colleges and universities around the country.
